Letters being displayed on your device can be the result of moisture buildup within the probe, water immersion, exposure to excessive heat or flame, or severe bending or twisting of the probe wire.
In most cases, the probe has shorted out and will need to be replaced.
If you have a digital instant read thermometer that does not have a detachable probe and one of these codes appears on your device, the unit will likely need to be replaced.
Please see below to find the code displayed on your unit, what would cause this, and possible solutions.
HHH/HI or LLL/LO - This may appear on your thermometer's display if the detected temperature is above/below than the maximum/minimum temperature threshold of your unit. Carefully remove the probe and allow it to return to room temperature. If your probe is still displaying the code at room temperature, it is likely that the probe has shorted out and will need to be replaced.
ErrH - This is a code that will sometimes display on digital instant read thermometers. It indicates than an internal error has occurred and it will no longer read temperatures. This can be a result of drop/fall damage, water immersion/moisture buildup, or exposure to direct heat/flame. Check your thermometer's manual for warranty information, and if your device is covered please contact us for repair/replacement information.
If your thermometer or probe is still covered by its warranty, please contact us and we will issue a replacement or begin a warranty return process. If your thermometer or probe is no longer covered by its warranty, the unit or part will need to be replaced.
If you need a new probe, but are not sure which probe to order, please see out next article: What probe do I need to order? (All Probes List)
